One of the country’s leading private school groups, Curro Holdings has announced major changes in its management structure.
Curro has roped in Burtie September as Chief Financial Officer who will succeed Cobus Loubser who vacates the position as he was appointed as the new Executive Director of the group.
As listed in the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Curro appoints September who previously served as the group financial manager.
The group announced the news in a statement that the appointment will be effective from January 1, 2023, while Loubser will occupy his new role as an Executive Director on the same date.
As the statement suggests per IOL, September is a qualified Chartered Accountant who completed his South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) articles at Deloitte & Touche in Cape Town.
September also joined and worked at Deloitte’s office in Indianapolis in the United States of America on a secondment.
“He worked at South African Breweries as a management accountant at one of its largest distribution centres in South Africa before he was employed as a Senior Accountant at Woolworths Financial Services for more than two years. He joined Curro in July 2016 as its group financial manager,” Curro Holdings said in a statement.
The company which operates private schools in South Africa said the appointment was made in accordance with the Board’s nomination policy.
“The board welcomes September to the role of CFO and looks forward to his continued and valuable contributions to the company,” it added.
Meanwhile, the group announced in early November that CEO Andries Greyling has opted to retire, effective 1 January 2023.
Greyling will resign as CEO and from the board but he is still available to Curro until the end of June 2023 as he will facilitate the transition to the new CEO.
The outgoing CEO, Greyling, has contributed to Curro’s growth for over 15 years (first as CFO, COO, and then as CEO) and under his leadership, the Group navigated unchartered territory during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Board would like to thank Andries for his contribution to the group and the selfless way he worked for the future of the children of this country. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” said Santie Botha, chairperson of the Board.
