Seriti Green has handed over the Vunumoya Main Transmission Station (MTS) to Eskom through NTCSA, the state-owned operator that runs grid integration and power wheeling. The R1-billion station took 18 months to build and now anchors Mpumalanga’s expanding wind and solar grid corridor.

The MTS is already carrying 155 MW from the Ummbila Emoyeni One Wind Facility into South Africa’s grid, delivered ahead of plan. This early power-feed sets the pace for Seriti’s 900-MW growth programme, which will roll out in phases. The station manages load flow, holds voltage stability, and reduces congestion across new feeder lines.

Infrastructure Sized for Real Load

At the handover, Seriti Group CEO Mike Teke kept messaging practical:
“This station was engineered to run, not pose.”

Then, NTCSA CEO Monde Bala explained the station’s design. It carries 400-kV and 132-kV transmission lines, supported by a 500-MVA transformer core. The layout also allows room for new feeders as renewable projects complete permitting.

Commissioning Brought Forward for Mines

TheOriginal, plan was set for March 2026 commissioning. But Seriti Green and Eskom delivered earlier, and first power will now wheel into Seriti Resources’ mining operations from 28 November 2025. This acceleration will reduce diesel-replacement electricity demand and trim Scope 2 emissions at active shafts.

Meanwhile, Seriti Green CEO Peter Venn reinforced sequencing. His point was clear: the company will secure load stability in Mpumalanga first, and then step into the SADC grid discussion from a base of proven delivery rather than forecasts.
