As of Monday, 15th May, 2023, Emirates became more digitalised. The airline will require most of its passengers departing from Dubai International Airport to use mobile boarding passes instead of printed ones. The airline describes this as “taking a step forward in its drive to offer customers the convenience and assurance of digitally enabled travel journeys.”
“This initiative will significantly reduce paper waste while simultaneously offering a convenient and speedy digitized check-in experience for passengers departing Dubai,” the company said in a release. “It reduces the risk of lost or misplaced boarding passes, giving passengers peace of mind when traveling.”
Emirates said this will significantly reduce paper waste, while offering a convenient and speedy digitalised check-in experience.
According to reports by One Mile At A Time, Going forward, passengers checking in at Terminal 3 will receive their mobile boarding pass via email or SMS. Similarly, baggage receipts will be emailed directly to passengers and will be available via Emirates’ app.
The passengers who will be allowed to continue using printed boarding passes are those travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors, those who need special assistance and all passengers travelling to the United States.
“Millions of Emirates passengers have already been enjoying the convenience of digitally-enabled journeys,” the company said.
The airline has started to offer the modernised digital check-in service. In a statement Emirates’ COO Adel al Redha said, the new concept was developed in order to help passengers “avoid busy periods at the airport and minimize queuing.”
In late April the company opened its first “city check-in and travel store” in Dubai’s financial district which allows passengers to complete every check-in process, including dropping off their luggage, without visiting the airport. The city check-in and travel store also feature the world’s first robot check-in assistant, which matches faces with scanned passports.
