A new R500 million shopping center has been opened in Zeerust, North West, aiming to meet rising retail demand in the transit hub between South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.
The 18,000 square meter Autumn Leaf Mall was developed by Akani Properties near Zeerust’s CBD after limited existing retail options failed to satisfy excess consumer appetite. Previously, residents had to travel to Rustenburg or Mafikeng to access popular brands such as Woolworths, Checkers, Ackermans, Truworths, Mr Price, Clicks, and Pep. The project saw the creation of approximately 500 construction jobs.
The mall features a taxi rank and filling station, with plans for a hotel and private hospital in the pipeline.
Akani Properties Chairman Zamani Letjane was excited about the launch of the project.
“Zeerust [presents] growth opportunities and will stem the tide of migration to big cities and contribute to job creation and economic growth in this largely rural province of North West”, Letjane said.
The development of this mall is another commercial property for Akani Porperties, whose portfolio includes owning the Nicolway Bryanston, Secunda Shopping Centre, Radisson Hotel and Destiny Exclusive Hotel in Kempton Park.
