Mahindra has recently introduced the Thar Roxx, a five door of its Thar SUV. The new model now comes in petrol and diesel engine options, and aims to enhance the popular Thar lineup with a touch of traditional charm and modern upgrades.
The Thar Roxx still has its original Thar touch and it also adds several changes to the car. The front is featured new with LED headlamps, flanked by C-sharp DRLs, and a redesigned bumper, and a grille with vertical rectangular elements. The rear of the SUV sports a spare wheel mounted on the back, with a removable black roof section. The Thar Roxx drive son 18-inch wheels are available in three colours; white, black, and red.
The interior of the Thar Roxx has the similar design of The Thar Roxx three-door model, but still adds a few enhancements. The cabin has circular air-con vent, which are against the leatherette dashboard, a glove compartment, and a familiar three-spoke steering wheel. The seats are easily adjustable for those with different heights, and rear passenger benefit from dedicated air-con vents, which improves the comfort.
The car also comes with a 10.24-inch multimedia screen which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, and a digital instrument panel. The higher trims offers for automatic parking brake, ventilated seats, a Harman Kardon audio system and a large panoramic sunroof. For safety, the SUV has six airbags, an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Brake Locking Differential. (BLD).
The Thar Roxx offers the same engine as the Thar three-door: a 2.0 litre turbo petrol that delivers 120 kW and 330 N.m of torque, and the 2.2 litre diesel engine that produces 113 kW and 330 kW N.m of torque. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or the six-speed automatic transmission.
The Thar Roxx is available in both 4×4 and 4×2 drivetrains.
It is still too early to tell if the new model will find a place in the South African markets. The Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 will be priced at INR12.99 lakh(R275,833.00) for the INR13.99 lakh(R 297,067.26) for the diesel version and it also rivals the Force Gurkha 5-door and is larger than Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
