From traveling with taxis on the road to traveling with taxis in the air, the motoring sector is constantly elevating and applying new innovative ways to use transportation.
Most recently, the electric startup called Joby Aviation Inc. shared that it has plans to begin a commercial service for its battery-powered air taxis by late 2025 in Dubai.
In a city known for its fast-paced lifestyle, air taxis will offer a change to a more efficient mode of transport avoiding peak hour traffic jams on the ground as well as reducing travel time.
Joby Aviation Inc. is one of several manufactures of Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL). The aircraft will be designed to take customers on short journeys and Dubai will be the first city around the globe to introduce the aerial taxi service and a vertiport network.
For the operation of air taxis to work, Dubai is investing in the construction and integration of vertiports across the city. The air taxi will be able to carry five passengers, including the pilot. It will have speeds reaching up to 180km/h, bringing a swift and sustainable alternative to ground transportation to the modern city.
Air taxis are equipped with FlyFree technology that improves safety and control by monitoring the movement in all directions. Unlike traditional helicopters that have one rotor, these taxis are equipped with 16 motors, offering better stability and alignment while flying.
Dubai’s Roads Transport Authority (RTA) announced that they have pre-ordered 10 integrity eVTOLs from the European developer CRISALION Mobility.
Riding in these air taxis will be priced similarly to Uber Black and will greatly decrease travel time throughout the city. Dubai is soaring to new heights with its invention that is set to launch in 2025.
