Mercedes-Benz fans in South Africa have reason to rejoice, as the highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is now available in limited quantities. Initially, it appeared unlikely that the 225 kW crossover would make its way to the South African market, but Mercedes-Benz SA surprised everyone by announcing a “special limited-edition” GLB 35 in 2022. Local buyers can now purchase one of only 35 units of this exclusive vehicle, which is only available through Mercedes-Benz SA’s online store.
While the details are a little confusing, as the main image on the website shows the recently facelifted GLB 35 while the examples listed appear to be pre-facelift models, the excitement is palpable. At the moment, it is unclear which version South Africa has received. The GLB 35, on the other hand, has a starting price of R1,404,350, which includes a 5-year/100,000 km maintenance plan. In comparison, the AMG Line version of the 165 kW GLB 250 starts at R1,050,287.
As of now, all 35 Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 units are still available on Mercedes-Benz SA’s online store, with some showing an estimated arrival date of May or June and others listed as “available.” These limited-edition vehicles appear to be similarly equipped, with options such as 21-inch AMG Multispoke matte-black alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and AMG red-contrast stitching. The availability of the 7-seater configuration is unknown.
The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that delivers 225 kW and 400 Nm of torque to all four wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The pre-facelift GLB 35 claims a 0-100 kph sprint time of 5.2 seconds, while the refreshed model, equipped with a mild-hybrid system, achieves a slightly slower claimed time of 5.5 seconds due to the added weight.
It’s worth noting that the above-mentioned prices include a 5-year/100,000-kilometer maintenance plan as well as Mercedes-Benz SA’s 2-year/unlimited-kilometer warranty. We will provide updates on this exciting release as more information becomes available.
Finally, Mercedes-Benz SA has introduced a limited edition of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 exclusively for the South African market. With only 35 units available, this high-performance crossover is sure to captivate enthusiasts with its powerful engine, stylish design, and exclusive features. Don’t pass up the opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
