South African low-cost airline operator FlySafair has announced a new route to Zanzibar as it will depart from OR Tambo International Airport.
The popular low-cost airline says it has added a new route to its regional roster and the flight will depart from ORTIA to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar.
FlySafair said it will start a weekly return flight from the first weekend of April 2023, with a second-weekday flight potentially being added at a later date.
According to Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair, he said Zanzibar is one of the most loved destinations in the African continent.
“Zanzibar is one of the most beautiful island destinations in Africa,” he said. “This, along with the success we have seen flying to Mauritius and the demand for our chartered flights to Zanzibar were key players in our decision to add this route to our schedule.”
Bookings for the new route opened on March 13 and the first flight is set to take off from Johannesburg on Saturday, April 8.
BusienssTech Africa has learned that the weekly return flights to Zanzibar are part of FlySafair’s plan to grow its services to meet the needs of its consumers after nearly three years of limited travel.

The announcement of the Zanzibar route marks the beginning of a year of growth for FlySafair, with plans to add more regional routes to their schedule and more aircraft to their fleet in the coming months.
