Capitec Bank Holdings Ltd., South Africa’s largest bank by customer base, announced that it successfully restored all banking services following a widespread global computer outage. The incident disrupted airlines and financial institutions worldwide.
Capitec’s online banking, mobile transactions, and card payments were all affected due to an issue at the cyber-security firm CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. Despite the disruptions, Capitec reassured its clients that their bank accounts and personal data remained secure and unaffected.
The outage impacted companies globally, including Microsoft Corp., which investigated issues with its cloud services. Microsoft reported resolving problems affecting its 365 apps and services, although it continues to address lingering impacts on some applications still experiencing degraded performance.
In a statement, Capitec said, “We want to reassure our clients that their bank accounts and personal data remain secure and unaffected by this incident.” The bank’s swift response highlights its commitment to maintaining service reliability and customer trust amidst global cyber challenges.
