The online Banking app for Capitec was down for a couple of hours on Tuesday the 26th of September, which was a payday for a majority of South African employees.
The Bank said this was due to a technical issue. A number of its clients took to social media to express how unhappy they were.
One client for the bank on X, (formerly known as Twitter) wrote: “The Capitec app going down on pay day is national heritage,” while another one said: “Capitec has to be using the same people that developed the home affairs system because why it’s always down??”
When the bank was asked what was happening, a Capitec spokeswoman said via e-mail to Tech Central that the issue lasted only a few hours on Tuesday morning.
The bank said during the downtime, it directed the clients towards their card services and ATM options.
“The technical issue has been resolved and the app is up and running. We apologise for the inconvenience,” the bank said.
