In a week that has had a flurry of X-Corp news flying over the web, X (Twitter) has also released a Beta version of its brand new TV app for smart TVs. The XTV App is available on various platforms including on LG’s store, Amazon’s store, as well as the Google Play Store for Android/Google TV.
The Play Store description states that “the X app is the trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV! Discover a new way to experience the world of X, as we bring you unique and engaging content right to your living room”. With growing video content on the X platform the incorporation of a TV channel is a logical growth strategy which will allow people to watch the next Space X launch right from their Living room or office directly on X TV.
Twitter – now X has previously launched a TV App that did not have much of a life-span but with the growth of their audience recently and the volume of video content backed by the XCorp muscle, it is a fair bet to expect the service to grow in audience rapidly. X TV is clearly going after streaming video services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch and Daily Motion and with X providing a cut of earnings to content creators when you become a subscriber, perhaps this is the start of true competition for the likes of Google and YouTube.
It would appear, that Elon Musk intends to continue to expand X (Twitter) across multiple platforms to be the Universal App for news and related content. He has also suggested that he intends to launch his own mobile phone brand and with the interconnectivity provided by his low level orbit satellite service StarLink, he might be onto a winning formula of interconnected networks and technology.
