In a surprise move, that is bound to have an impact on retail group Pick n Pay, Discovery Vitality, the benefits club of the Discovery Group announced yesterday, that it would be dropping the food retailer as one of their Healthy-Food partners and will be replacing them with Checkers and Checkers Sixty60.
Pick n Pay has had a disaster in its trading over the past few years and recorded a R3 billion loss in their latest financial results released in February 2024.
As part of a turnaround plan, Pick n Pay is currently undergoing a Rights Offer to raise R4.0 billion and have replaced their former CEO Pieter Boone with a recall of former CEO Sean Summers last October, in an attempt to turn the business around.
They also announced in May 2024 that they would be closing over 100 stores, roughly ten percent of their total store count and this may have been one of the considerations in Discovery’s decision to axe them as a partner.
According to Discovery Vitality their new Healthy-Food benefit will enable vitality members to get rewards at Checkers for in-store purchases and with the Checkers Sixty60 delivery service. Woolworths online, Woolies app and Woolies Dash are also included in the rewards program.
The Healthy-Food rewards are paid in Discovery Miles, the Discovery currency and not in cash or points.
According to the announcement Vitality members will continue to earn rewards on items you purchase at Pick n Pay and with Pick n Pay Asap delivery service until 31 August 2024, and that those rewards will be paid to members in September.
