OpenAI has responded to Elon Musk in a blog post about a lawsuit filed by Musk against the company, its CEO Sam Altman, and president Greg Brockman. Musk, who helped start OpenAI but is not involved anymore, says the organization has moved away from its goal of making responsible AI.
In the blog post, OpenAI talked about feeling sad about the situation, saying: “We’re sad that it’s come to this with someone whom we’ve deeply admired.” The post suggests that Musk is upset because he tried to make OpenAI part of Tesla but failed. It says Musk inspired them to aim high, then said they would fail, started a competing company, and is now suing them as they make good progress on OpenAI’s mission without him.
Musk filed the lawsuit in San Francisco, claiming that OpenAI’s close connection with Microsoft goes against its original plan to create open-source technology without too much influence from big companies. Even though OpenAI says its goal is to make AI benefit everyone, the lawsuit argues that it has become like a part of Microsoft, the world’s biggest tech company.
Artificial general intelligence, or AGI, is a type of AI that doesn’t exist yet but could be better than humans at many things.
Musk’s lawsuit includes claims of breaking agreements, not being loyal, and unfair business practices. Musk, who used to give money to OpenAI until 2019, wants OpenAI to stop helping Microsoft and Altman personally.
This argument shows how hard it is for organizations like OpenAI to stick to their original goals when things change. Musk’s fight with OpenAI could also affect how AI is developed responsibly and how companies work together in the future.
