The former CEO of the State IT Agency (Sita), Bongani Andy Mabaso, has joined JSE-listed Altron as the group’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Mabaso left Sita after just eight months, and though the reasons for his departure were not initially disclosed, sources suggest it was due to interference by certain members of the agency’s board. Sita has long grappled with issues of corruption and poor governance.
Previously, Mabaso was in a senior technology management role at Standard Bank, and he has expressed confidence in his ability to bring about positive change at Sita. Now, as Altron’s CTO, Mabaso will play a pivotal role in executing the company’s transformative growth strategy, with a specific focus on artificial intelligence and data analytics. Altron aims to expand its platform ecosystem under Mabaso’s leadership.
Having served as CIO for digital and customer journeys at Standard Bank and in various roles at Transnet, including as a senior engineer, Mabaso brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Altron’s statement highlighted that Mabaso’s responsibilities will include leading the group-wide technology function, driving product design, and innovating strategies to enhance existing revenue streams while creating new ones.
Werner Kapp, Altron’s group CEO seems to be excited about the company’s growth journey and the addition of Mabaso to the leadership team. Mabaso’s strategic focus is expected to enable Altron to deliver innovative technology solutions to the South African market and beyond, aligning with the company’s ambition to become a leading platform and IT services business in its chosen markets.
