2025 has showcased a massive array of exceptional business and product innovations across the African continent, where Africans are surging ahead with fintech, bio-tech, agri-tech and enviro-tech solutions that are making a difference in communities and industries, and building eco-systems of products and solutions that are answering some of Africa’s biggest challenges.
As we considered the best tech innovations for 2025 we were reminded just how determined African entrepreneurs are and how much staying power they have developed.
Among our finalists announced last Friday, we had AI software group Cloud23 with their AI developed Chief Commercial Officer – Fallon, that is making small businesses far more capable of tackling big markets with improved data based prompts and automations. We had the remarkable Uku’hamba (Pty) Ltd, a transformative 3D prosthetic printing solution, offering affordable prosthetic limbs for amputees.
Stand-out Winner for 2025

The stand-out company for our panel of judges, was the incredible FortisX, a company that is in the process of rewriting the plastics and plastic pollution narrative for the world. An African company that through perseverance came up with the global first, fully decomposable plastics solution that will fully decompose in soil, within a two-month period – no residue – no more micro plastics, just pure bio-degraded natural material that won’t harm our planet.
Bye-Bye to all the landfills overflowing with millions of empty single-use water and beverage bottles, a enviro-tech development fully deserving of taking honours as the overall African Tech Innovator Winner for 2025.
“Africa’s real business transformation will come from our willingness to embrace technology at every level, says Tlangelani Manzini, CEO of Base Five and one of our award panelists. “Technology can no longer be seen as a luxury or an afterthought, it is the key that unlocks organisations full potential”. “Those that intentionally adopt and integrate Tech aren’t just improving efficiencies, they are redefining what is possible, gaining agility, scaling faster, and competing on a global stage”. “As we celebrate Innovators, we see clear proof that Technology is not only shaping the future, but also enabling African organisations to participate in it fully, driving inclusion, strengthening competitiveness, and unlocking real economic and social value, concludes Manzini.
Overall Winner: FortisX
“On behalf of the entire Fortis X family, I want to express our genuine gratitude for this wonderful recognition. Being entrepreneurs can sometimes feel like a solitary journey, and to have Business Tech Africa notice our work truly means the world to us” said Nicholas De Beer, Founder of FortisX.
“This award is more than just a milestone; it’s a reminder that our efforts are seen and appreciated, and it inspires us to keep pushing forward”. We hope it also serves as encouragement for fellow entrepreneurs out there who are on their own paths He concluded.

Greg Stewart – Editor of Business Tech Africa comments that “the drive for a better world always starts with a simple idea, but making that idea a reality is where tenacity and the real innovation counts”. I am overwhelmed weekly with the amazing entrepreneurs we have on the African continent and count myself fortunate to be an observer of these developments. “Today I get to at least, recognise the amazing people and work that they and their staff do to make these developments into game-changing realities”, says Stewart.
