In a bid to enhance the efficiency of its marketplace, Amazon unveiled new generative AI-powered features last year, aimed at assisting sellers in swiftly crafting listings with minimal input. Now, the e-commerce behemoth is taking another stride towards simplifying the listing creation process, particularly for items already present on their platform.
This innovative tool harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to extract pertinent details from an item’s URL on external websites and automatically generate a corresponding Amazon listing. Initially launched in English, this feature is currently available to sellers in the United States, with potential expansions on the horizon.
Amazon elaborated on this development in a recent blog post, stating, “In addition to using sparse amounts of text or an image to generate listings, we are now launching the ability for sellers to simply leverage their existing listings by just providing Amazon with a URL, which is automatically parsed by our generative AI-based features, to seamlessly create high-quality, engaging listings for Amazon’s store.”
This move follows Amazon’s October introduction of a tool designed for advertisers to generate contextual backgrounds through text prompts. The company asserted that incorporating contextual backgrounds could lead to a staggering 40% increase in click-through rates compared to plain white backgrounds.
According to Amazon, over 100,000 sellers have already experimented with generative AI tools, with an intriguing revelation that 80% of sellers opt to accept suggestions generated by AI-powered tools, underscoring the growing reliance on AI-driven solutions within the seller community.
Beyond Amazon’s endeavours, other tech giants have also ventured into AI-powered tools tailored for advertisers and retailers. Google ventured into this domain last year with its product imagery tool, while eBay introduced a feature enabling the generation of listings from product images. Earlier this year, Shopify joined the fray by launching its own AI-powered image editor for products.
Amazon’s continued investment in AI-driven solutions not only streamlines the selling process for its vast network of sellers but also underscores the growing significance of AI in reshaping the landscape of e-commerce operations. As these technologies mature, they are expected to further revolutionize how businesses engage with customers and manage their online presence.
